The JAI VIS-CAM 500 is a configurable vehicle imaging subsystem designed to provide maximum performance for image capture and vehicle identification. VIS-CAM lets users combine various cameras, light sensors, illuminators, and other components into a high performance network architecture to meet the needs of virtually any traffic application. VIS-CAM 500 components communicate across a standard Ethernet architecture, simplifying system design, installation, and maintenance. Multiple VIS-CAM 500 subsystems can be combined and configured to fit any size installation, including multiple lanes, multiple toll plazas, and distributed processing equipment. VIS-CAM 500's standard architecture has been shown to save more than 40% in installation time with easy online maintenance performed on-site or from the back office via point-to-point TCP/IP communication. VIS-CAM can be interfaced to a variety of lane controllers or other vehicle detection equipment to reliably capture consistently- positioned images of vehicles on demand – whether stopped, exiting the roadway, or moving at high speeds up to 200 mph (322 km/h). In addition, VIS-CAM 500 cameras all support the network time protocol (NTP) to provide precise synchronization of date/time stamps in even the largest multi-camera configurations. VIS-CAM 500's most important feature is its proven ability to produce clear, high resolution, high-contrast images of vehicles and their license plates under all weather and lighting conditions. This is the result of patent pending light sensor technology that continuously measures the ambient lighting conditions and adjusts the camera settings to achieve the best exposure of both plate and vehicle. Other imaging systems, which rely on auto-iris lenses, are subject to constant fluctuations due to the presence or absence of vehicles. This often causes incorrect camera settings based on light readings from the pavement, car reflections, or other sources.
