The SSC-CX34 is a new type of color DSP (Digital Signal Processing) CCD camera which has a built-in 12x zoom lens. This integration contributes to the camera's remarkably affordable price, compact size and light weight compared with a conventional camera that uses an external lens. As this built-in lens can be controlled by industry-standard control voltages, the SSC-CX34 can be easily installed in hard wired or remote pan/tilt systems with the use of a controller / receiver. Furthermore the lens also has zoom/focus preset capabilities for integration into alarm/event driven systems. Sony advanced digital technology ensures the camera has excellent image quality, even under adverse light conditions. The SSC-CX34 offers a host of outstanding features such as Smart Control™ feature, ATWpro, Turbo AGC™ and Aperture Control. Achieving both excellent picture performance and high cost-efficiency, this camera is sure to satisfy the varied demands of CCTV applications. |
The SSC-CX34 uses a densely packed, 1/3-inch IT (Interline Transfer) Hyper HAD™(Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD sensor with 380,000 effective picture elements. This densely packed CCD image sensor provides excellent picture quality with a high horizontal resolution of 470TV lines. Sensitivity has been increased to achieve a minimum illumination of only 4.5lx (F1.8, 50 IRE, AGC ON (TURBO mode)), permitting high quality picture acquisition in low light situations. A further benefit of this Hyper HAD sensor™ technology is that dark current noise is reduced to provide a superior signal-to-noise ratio of 50dB.
The SSC-CX34 is equipped with a powerful AGC (Auto Gain Control) function, Turbo AGC. This advanced function can improve sensitivity more flexibly and effectively than conventional AGC by controlling video gain over a range that is increased from 0 ~ 18dB to 0 ~ 24dB. Thus a subject under very low illumination can be distinguished more clearly with excellent color reproduction.
The SSC-CX34 is equipped with a built-in 12x motorized zoom lens. As the zoom, iris and focus functions of the lens can be remotely controlled from an external controller/receiver, it is quick and easy to set up a remote lens control system using the supplied lens control cable. The voltage range for lens control can be selected from +/- 12V or +/- 6V and the voltage polarity can be selected from NORMAL or REVERSE according to the connected controller/receiver's specifications, using the two switches on the rear panel. As the lens provides control voltages related to zoom and focus position, these functions can be controlled externally using the type of remote system commonly found in telemetry receivers with presetting capabilities. Buttons for manual control of zoom and focus are also provided on the side panel of the SSC-CX34 for local operation. The iris of the lens can be set for either auto iris mode or remote control to further expand the flexibility of the camera/lens combination. Installation time is cut down because there is no need to back-focus the lens to the camera, as is normally the case with conventional cameras with external zoom lenses
One of the biggest problems in security surveillance operations is backlight which can put the subject into shadow. Of course, surveillance is meaningless if the subject cannot be clearly identified. Sony Smart Control, an advanced digital light level control feature that uses high reliability Sony digital signal processing technology, overcomes this problem by achieving the optimum balance between Iris and Gain. Smart Control allows the SSC-CX34 to obtain clear images under suitable light levels in a wide variety of lighting situations, day or night. Compared with conventional analog signal processing cameras which control Iris and Gain separately, the SSC-CX34 deals with these factors more intelligently ensuring backlight compensation is accomplished far more effectively. Smart Control works flexibly wherever an object appears in the picture because the camera senses the entire area of the frame and measures the average light level. With Smart Control, once the proper video level is set, there is no adjustment necessary for normal or backlight conditions. This feature makes the SSC-CX34 contribute to a wide range of surveillance and security applications.
Aperture/Sharp Mode makes object outlines sharper in the reproduced picture. This mode is ideal for situations where the object merges into the scene with a similar color shade. This feature is also effective when the information is recorded onto video tapes because the recorded images can be received in better detail.
The SSC-CX34 has three types of white balance control mode - ATWpro, ATW and AWB (one push) - to meet various operational conditions. Advanced ATWpro (Auto Tracing White Balance) Mode is ideal when lighting conditions change frequently, and is particularly suited to applications where the operator needs to see objects as they appear to the eye. The effective operational color range is 2500K to 6000K. This mode makes optimum use of the capabilities of the Smart Control function. Conventional ATW Mode allows the operator to see objects as they appear during daylight. The color temperature range extends down to 2000K and up to 10,000K. AWB (Auto White Balance) Mode automatically memorizes the adjusted white balance values every time the AWB button on the rear panel is pushed.
The SSC-CX34 operates on AC24V which is ideal for pan/tilt systems. This enables the camera to receive power from a connected receiver. The SSC-CX4 features AC line lock for external synchronization. Using the AC power frequency (60Hz) as the vertical sync reference provides roll-free switching in multi-camera installations. In addition, as the SSC-CX34 has an externally adjustable vertical phase (+/-90º) control, complete synchronization can be attained.
The SSC-CX34 houses the zoom lens in its solid, durable body, which allows highly reliable operation in CCTV systems, as the lens is better protected against dust and vandalism. In addition because of its compact size, only 5 1/8" in length, and light weight, smaller domes can be used.
