Extron Fiber Optic products are designed for long haul transmission of audio and video as well as RS-232 control signals over fiber optic cable. In A/V applications with very long distance requirements, fiber offers several important advantages including the capability to send A/V signals over extreme distances — up to 30 km (18.75 miles), zero signal degradation along the cable, and immunity to outside interference. Signals sent through fiber are also inherently secure, making fiber-based transmission the preferred choice in government, military, and medical applications.

Fiber Optic products from Extron feature proprietary zero compression, all-digital technology to maintain full digital signal integrity throughout the signal path, so that computer-video images up to UXGA (1600x1200) resolution are transmitted with pixel-for-pixel accuracy. 

With the ability to extend signals over distances on the order of several kilometers or miles while delivering exceptional high resolution image performance, Extron Fiber Optic products are ideal for facilities such as buildings, airports, stadiums, and university or corporate campuses.

The diagram below shows the Fiber Optics Transmitter sending RGB, audio, and RS-232 control signals over a single fiber optic cable. Using single mode fiber for the SM model, extreme distances up to 30 km (18.75 miles) are possible. Also shown in the diagram is an optional second fiber link, which enables full control and monitoring at either the transmitter or receiver location.
